Upon settling in Fonthill from Vancouver Island 10 years ago, Ruth Nixon opened The Whisk & Ladle on December 1, 2006. It was her plan to open Niagara’s only Culinary Boutique encompassing both a quality kitchen accessory store and a professional kitchen where she could create culinary feasts for catered events & gourmet prepared meals. In late 2007 The Whisk & Ladle began to host cooking classes, where Ruth imparts her knowledge and experience with foods from all over the world.
In 2004 Ruth attended the prestigious Stratford Chefs School and graduated with honours in June of 2006. Previous to her training in Stratford she worked for15 years at various restaurants including: The Buttery, NOTL, The Stone Road Grille, NOTL and Missoula’s River Café & Grille in BC.

It is my pleasure to create meals of the highest quality and taste for my family, friends and clients. I believe that food should be prepared honestly, with respect for the environment and seasons in order to achieve superior taste. I look forward to cooking with or for you in the very near future!”

Catering Manager Katie House arrived in Niagara from Cleveland, Ohio in early 2006. Her background includes marketing, fundraising and event management in a variety of non-profit organizations, including the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. She holds a degree in Communications from Cleveland State University and is a Professional Wedding Consultant and Coordinator certified by The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada. Her significant experience combined with her passion for food and entertaining, makes her the perfect addition to The Whisk & Ladle team.
